I don't understand.

Isn't that what that command is doing? It contains the server.log path,
except for all that <dev/null> stuff. What is that for?

Should the command look like this than:
nohup /usr/local/pgsql/bin/postmaster -D /usr/local/pgsql/data/server.log &

Could you please clarify?
