Accessing field properties

Hey,

Is there a way to access the properties of a field through an SQL statement?i.e. wether field is a foreign key or if it
isprimary or varchar etc.
 

I am connecting to the database through PERL/DBI and need to access the
properties of the fields to build the web page around.
