table size performace

How many rows does it take for select performance on a
table to degrade? I hope this question isn't to
ambiguous (ie lollipop licks). But seriously, 100,000?
1,000,000? 10,000,000? With just a regular lookup on
an unique index. Nothing crazy or aggregate.

EX: select * from bigtable where id = 123456789

Read http://www.postgresql.org/docs/faqs.FAQ.html#4.4.

If you have a index, a simple select like your example is very fast,
independent of the rows count.
