You can start preparing for the exam. A day before you are ready to take the exam, choose the lastest exam and appear for it.
That is my thought on this.

The AWS Certified Database specialist certification (DBS-C01) is going away. I was notified I will not be able to renew mine after it expires in 2 years.
Email from AWS:

Are you referring to Database certification? Only certification RDS has a database implementation Specialist. That should suffice to show to the management.
